I Am the Rainbow
I Am The Rainbow
A poem by Karolyn Denson Landrieux
If you separate all of the colors from my brown body
Then I am the rainbow
I am the red of my native ancestors
Dancing under the stars
I am the yellow of my Asian sisters and brothers
I am the tan of my mother and my father
I am the black of my great great grandmother
Whose daddy was a slave
I am the white of his master
I am the burnt orange of the sun that bathes me
I am the blue that my soul feels at times
I am the violet purple
That is the favorite color of my eldest granddaughter
And I am the pink of the other
I am the green of the earth
All
Of this
Is me
In my brown body
I am unique
I am The Rainbow
