Entrepreneurial Courage

Entrepreneurial Courage

The entrepreneurial mind is different. It takes a special type of mindset to be your own boss. It’s a combination of wit and street smarts, business acumen and intuition. It’s a bet on yourself. It’s getting back up when you’ve been knocked down. It’s not taking no as a definitive answer. It takes creativity. It takes bravery. It takes courage. It takes faith. Entrepreneurs are daredevils in every sense of the word.

Entrepreneurs’ minds work backwards. We see the end results then figure out a way to get there. We can see what people want and then anticipate their needs. We can see what’s needed, then figure out a way to make it happen. Perhaps it is a kind of gift. We are like inventors, scientists, alchemists and physics all rolled into one. We are artists. Testing new things or trying another way to get the end results. Looking into the future to envision what isn’t there. Our brains work differently.

One of the biggest pitfalls of the entrepreneurial mind, however, is putting too many preverbal irons into the fire. Our minds are constantly swirling with thoughts and ideas. We will often have several projects cooking at one time. This can sometimes be to our own detriment. It takes a kind of self-discipline to be able to reign all that back. It is easy to spread oneself too thin in the idea department. I have been guilty of that. All ideas are good ideas but not all ideas should be executed.

Being an entrepreneur means wearing many hats, as I have mentioned. I believe the hardest part is believing in yourself enough to take the risks that are needed to be successful. I don’t think that ventures fail because of a lack of creativity. I think that it is because it is not financially sustainable to come to fruition. It takes patience when you know that there is a payoff and success coming. Sometimes it takes months for that to happen. Often our projects are for a later date. It takes faith and perseverance to keep going when things look bleak. How does the saying go? It’s always darkest before the dawn. That could not be more true than for an entrepreneur. Figuring out resources to stay in the game takes creativity. We become the ultimate gambler, betting on oneself.

To all my entrepreneurs out there keep, hustling and dreaming. There is no better high than winning. Even if they are small wins at first. Know that the big win is on its way. I believe that it’s going to happen. Be patient. Dig deep for that self-discipline and control that it takes to focus. Bet on one or two of your best ideas. Find your courage. Find your faith. I promise that one day it will all pay off. I believe in you. I believe in us.
