Pride
June is Pride month. It’s pretty much universal. I enjoy the celebrations and feel lucky that we live in a supportive community here in Paris. We actually live in a supportive community in our Pittsburgh neighborhood as well. In Paris we live in the Marais where they take the celebration to an entirely different level.
This years celebration is a bit bitter sweet though. Several of the iconic bars will be closing after Gay Pride weekend on June 26th. I believe the entire dynamic of our neighborhood will change after that.
I wish that my mom were alive to see these colorful parades and celebrations. Mom, although quite religious… when it suited her… always said love is love. She was very open minded for her generation. She would say that whomever one choses to love is not her business. She would say how do I know what love feels like for someone else? She was right and quite progressive.
Last time that I wrote this blog it was about community. That is so important in our world. That seems to be what is missing. But with that sense of community comes respect. Love they neighbor but respect their privacy and their choices. We need to provide support and relearn care of one another as well. There is so much emphasis on self care these days, and yes that is important too… one cannot pour from an empty vessel. However caring about each other and our neighbors is equally important. I sincerely hope that we can get back to that. Love is love after all 🌈
